Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act
Almost all businesses rely on the use of vehicles .
Figures show that up 1 in 3 road accidents involve a vehicle being used for business purposes.
This has prompted the government to pass legislation to raise standards and awareness amongst people who drive as part of their work.
The Corporate Manslaughter Act which was implemented on April 6th 2008, affecting all businesses regardless of their size, requires that employers follow occupational road risk assessments which covers training for drivers using their own or company vehicles for business purposes. If a driver using a vehicle for work is involved in a fatal accident, prosecution could lead to heavy fines, enforced closure of the business or even imprisonment for company directors and transport managers.
